Kolkata: Over two months ago, when the Badshah of Bollywood and Bengal’s favourite Didi aka Paschim Banga’s Chief Minister Miss Mamata Banerjee met, there were only fireworks! Not only because the event which was planned (The Kolkata film Festival) was a grand success, but it had a certain happy string attached to it. Shah Rukh has always considered Kolkata to be his ‘second home’ right from his Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman days and leaves no opportunity in flying down to the City of Joy. The feelings that he shares for Kolkata and its crowd is kinda mutual! West Bengal is completely under the Badshah’s provincial areas, a territory that has already been captured by him ages back. There can be no two ways about the love and warmth that Shah Rukh feels for the city. Much to his expectations, he had bagged away the team of Kolkata during the inauguration season of the Indian Premier League giving many hearts a reason to beat! But today, certain news has made most Calcuttans smile! Shah Rukh has confirmed being the brand ambassador for West Bengal and has some killing plans up his sleeve to beautify the city and its aura! When the announcements were made, a large debate was seen doing the rounds about how brand Kolkata would benefit from brand SRK! What would the extremely witty and powerful business mind of SRK bring for the city? Today, all of it stands answered!
SRK, as confirmed by his spokesperson, will do a tourism campaign where he will travel the state and portray the natural avatar of West Bengal in his inimitable fashion! What comes as a surprise is that the person conceptualizing on the theme and content of the campaign is none other than Shoojit Sircar, the one who directed Amitabh Bachchan for his Gujarat promotional campaign. Bachchan’s Gujarat campaign was a grand success. So with the same director and India’s leading brand setter in hand, expectation from the duo is sky rocketing.
Shoojit Sirkar, confirming to the news added, “We are in talks about the campaign for West Bengal tourism, and we have a few ideas in place. It’ll be more of a lonely planet kind of concept. Even for the Gujarat tourism ad, we’ve shot Mr Bachchan like a backpacker, and we have the same kind of idea for Bengal. Since Shah Rukh has already been announced as Bengal’s brand ambassador, we’ll probably be working with him on the campaign”. When a name like SRK heads out to explore the city from a tourist’s point of view, what Calcutta will achieve is a greater and grander dimension to it. That’s something inarguable and irrefutable.
For now, SRK, is busy shooting for Yash Chopra’s untitled film in London with Katrina Kaif. Post that, he would be busy being the Twelfth Man for his IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders!
But one message that is purely aimed at our loveable Don is: Pack your bags sweetie! Your voyage is certainly going to be Epic!
