Despite pleas from his wife, Shahrukh Khan finds it difficult to be serious at events where seriousness is required, such as the India Today Conclave today. However, this time it was hardly his fault.
He was asked about his six-pack abs in the midst of a general discussion, and obligingly, he lifted up his shirt. ‘I don’t know whether it’s a six-pack or not, but it’s definitely a four,’ he quipped. The audience which had filled up the house hooted their appreciation. Needless to say, this part of the Conclave grabbed the attention of the media.
Shahrukh spoke about his wife chiding him about making too many jokes. That sense of humour, however, remains an integral part of his appeal. He followed up with a witticism on the Bombay-Mumbai political divide. He did go on to discuss serious matters, such as communalism and the importance of dissociating religion for politics.
He reiterated the fact that he is married to a Hindu, and how religion is a personal association, not a matter for politics. He believes that politicians must not use religion for their own benefit. In doing so the issues at hand like education, employment generation, women’s upliftment, get sidelined.
