Sonam donates kites to school kids

New Delhi: Actress Sonam Kapoor thought she could be very generous and decided to make a special donation for school children. The actress wrote a letter on behalf of the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals for the Arya Vidya Mandir School’ principal in Mumbai, insisting that thousands of birds are killed or injured by the glass coated manjas.

The actress has therefore donated to these children special kites, which have regulation strings, begging them not to use glass powder strings. Sonam believes that the kites will sent a positive message to the children, and will encourage them not only to prevent injuring the birds, but also will make them think in the future about what appears to be a simple object can harm the ones around us.

During Basant Panchami and Makar Sankranti, countless birds are killed, injured, slashed and maimed every day. Human wounds have also been reported due to the glass powder-coated manjas.

In Maharashtra, a teacher was killed last year, while a young boy riding his bicycle was almost decapitated.
