When the biggest competition is you yourself: Kareena

Continuing her success streak for quite some time now, Kareena Kapoor now has a stronghold on Bollywood. She is also started realizing the fact that being commercially viable is another important aspect of maintaining stardom in the industry.

At the age of 31 Kareena has almost everything that a star can dream of, be it name, fame or fat paycheques. ‘Ra.One’ is being touted to cross a 100-crore mark at the box office this Diwali and Kareena feels glad that her films are competing against each other.

Previous projects like ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Golmaal 3’ and ‘Bodyguard’ made a gross income of over 100 crores and the anticipations with ‘Ra.One’ might actually make her the only actress in Bollywood to achieve something so massive.

She comments, “It is a wonderful stint to be a part of. To have such great successes like ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Golmaal 3’ and ‘Bodyguard’ with Aamir, Ajay and Salman is a wonderful thing. Now with Shahrukh, I am looking forward to ‘Ra. One. I keep hearing all such fantabulous box office figures every now and then. If ‘Ra.One’ indeed manages to do as well as predicted, then nothing better than that. My films are competing with my own films and that is a great feeling.”

Kareena feels that the competitive industry merely judges you by your last film so it’s only about the commercial viability of the stars. It’s true that Bollywood is an entertainment centric industry and that indeed is the only thing which sells. Therefore none of the production houses want to risk a change which is a somewhat wise decision indeed.

It seems that it was this very thought that made Kareena take up ‘Bodyguard’ even though she knew that all the focus will be on co-star Salman Khan. The movie had all that took to be an instant hit at the box office.  Kareena says, ““Regardless of what is sold about the movie, ultimately there has to be something in it that clicks with the audience, else it won’t work. ‘Bodyguard’ had a superb story and some fantastic twists that added to the film’s appeal. Otherwise, as a brand, the film wouldn’t have been successful in all languages.

Let’s see what this queen of Bollywood has in store for the future but if ‘Ra.One’ really turns out as expected it will sure be the biggest landmark in her life.
