Expected earnings of Bol Bachchan is 72 crores
Yesterday was not just another busy Friday. It was one of the most anticipated Fridays of the year as the carpet was set for one of Bollywood’s biggie to either shine in all its glory or sink without a trace. The 100 crore favourite director Rohit Shetty’s latest flick, his adaptation of the legendary Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s unforgettable and iconic ‘Golmaal’ was ready for release.
While the Critics, trade analysts, reviewers were busy doing their fraction of the job, the director and the cast including Ajay Devgan, Abhishek Bachchan, Prachi Desai and Asin were waiting for the verdict. First things first, thanks to the euphoric promotional activities centering the film, the film opened to average occupancies of about 60-65% in both single-plexes and multiplexes. Blame it on the stellar cast or the exciting plotline, the film also opened upto rave reviews and was appreciated for their delivery.
Barring a few regions like West Bengal and Punjab, the film is running quite well in the other parts of the country. While ‘Jatt and Juliet’ walked away with the cake in Punjab, West Bengal saw a low opening with about 30-35% occupancy on the first day of the film’s release. But given the good reviews and the categorical success history of the Rohit Shetty-Ajay Devgan pairing, this film is gearing up for being another blockbuster, adding yet another 100 crore feather to the director’s cap. Though the opening day was nowhere near to setting records, the buzz surrounding the film shows that the film will definitely pace up in the weekends and the following weeks to come.
The film was expected to touch the 15-16 crore mark on Day one, but it managed a fair amount of about 11 crores on Day One. The flm did an excellent business over the weekend, thanks to the word of mouth promotions, the film also amassed an exhilarating 43.1 crore in its opening weekend. But the weekdays were huge too. The Rohit shetty- Ajay Devgan formula has clicked yet again as the comedy flick which is an adaptation of yesteryear’s legendary comedy drama Golmaal raked in all the moolahs. If weekends were huge, the weekday collections were not much behind. Bol Bachchan was successfully garlanded with huge collections which read as follows: 7.03 crore on Monday, 6.3 crore on Tuesday, 5.43 crore on Wednesday and 4.95 crore on Thursday taking its tally to 66.81 crores. Along with the overseas business, the film has a net gross of about 72 crores and still running strong in both single screens and multiplexes.
But with the release of the hugely anticipated Saif Deepika flick, ‘Cocktail’, will Bol bachchan be able to continue its winning streak and reach the coveted 100 crore mark or will Cocktail eat into its business? Lets wait and watch
