Sipping the Gossips with Goher Iqbal Punn
Bollywood has always been open to new talents. The industry welcomes the ones laced with the skills to showcase at the platform of the Hindi cinema. We keep on witnessing the newcomers in all fields of the film – acting, direction, production, music, singing and other technical fronts. If you have the expertise, knock the world of Bollywood that is welcoming to all.
Well, it is pretty true that many have to make rounds and rounds of the industry, producers and directors to get a single chance to showcase the talents and ultimately they do not find any. And yes, the ones who are star sons and daughters and those who have approach to the producers-directors and the production houses etc can get ease chances to slip into the trade of Bollywood. But at last what runs and makes the stars penetrate permanently into this business and to stay intact in the industry, talent works. We have witnessed and often see the coming and going of the stars – the ones who stay are those who possess the skills to entertain the audiences. After all, as they say, ‘customer is the king’ thus in the case of Indian entertainment industry, the customer is the viewer who buys the ticket to watch a film, so if he/she is not happy with the skills of the stars, they cannot make their stay in the business of entertainment. Result – no work for them no matter if they are star sons-daughters or have bigger approach in hand.
2011 brought a number of new talents in the industry in all departments of movie business. But on the acting side in particular, the fraternity has been unfortunate to get the well-accomplished actors. The debutantes who bombastically flopped in 2011 include Chirag Paswan, Sulagna Panigrahi, Parvathy Omanakuttam, Simran Mundi, Sarah Jane Dias, Puja Gupta, Zoa Murani, Tena Desai and Sachiin Joshi.
Chirag Paswan – Chirag made his cinematic debut with the flick, ‘Miley Na Miley Hum’. He is the son of the famed politician Ram Vilas Paswan. His father wanted him to join in politics but he was not interested in the game of politics rather he liked to sail through the acting waves. Thus he stepped into Bollywood industry with Miley Na Miley Hum. The film generated much oomph but flopped badly at the box office. Opposite him was the sex bomb actress Kangna Ranaut who charged Rs. 5 crores for the movie. Chirag Paswan is no seeking the flicks, which seem far away from him. Let’ see when he begins showing off in the films again.
Sulagna Panigrahi – This hot sexy siren is the one who is famous for her sexy and curvy figure. She began rolling on the entertainment business with small screen but her Bollywood debut took place with Mukesh Bhatt’s film, ‘Murder 2’. She essayed the role of a sex worker in the movie. Panigrahi, though did well in the film, but she could not generate the worth among the filmmakers, which is why there is no film in her kitty now.
Parvathy Omanakuttan – She is the former Miss India who made her cinematic debut with a women-centric flick, ‘United Six’. The movie grabbed no business at the box office and flopped badly. Since she found no lucrative offers even no offer at all post this movie, she made her way to the world of south movies where she signed Billa 2 opposite Ajith Kumar, the south superstar.
Simran Mundi – Another beauty queen (Miss India) made her way to the cinema world, as usually the beauty queens do, with the film, ‘Jo Hum Chaahein’. Mundi also took part in the show ‘Zor Ka Jhatka’ hosted by the King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan. The opposite guy in the movie Sunny Gill too made his debut with this venture. The movie did not create any ripples at the box office.
Sarah Jane Dias – Sarah has been discovered by the coveted lensman Suresh Natarajan. Jane then went on winning a talent hunt show. Later she hosted two shows. Sarah was then roped in the music video of an Aussie group. Sarah Jane Dias then signed a Tamil film ‘Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai’ opposite the hero Vishal Krishna. But prior to the release of the film, she inked a deal of a Bollywood movie ‘Game’ opposite Abhishek Bachchan. Abhinay Deo’s directed venture fell flat at the box office. Sarah created ripples for her but she could not prove her mettle in Hindi cinema. Result: no movie at all!
Puja Gupta – Vashu Bhagnani signed the ex-Miss India Puja Gupta in his movie ‘F.A.L.T.U’ opposite his son Jackky Bhagnani. The film badly flopped at the box office. Jackky still could not generate any.
Zoa Morani – Shah Rukh Khan and Karim Morani (the father of Zoa) produced Always Kabhi Kabhi in which Zoa made her Bollywood debut. Roshan Abbas, the first time director, directed this flick but the film was a big disaster. Zoa showed no sparks of acting. Consequently she too flopped.
Tena Desae – She is a struggling model but she got a break in Bollywood with the movie ‘Yeh Fasley’. The movie flopped and then she did ‘Sahi Dhande Galat Bandhe’, this too emerged a big letdown.
Sachiin Joshi – Sachiin did not ignite any flames of liking for his acting among the viewers. The movie failed to generate business for the investors at the box office. So did Sachiin. He is now struggling to get another chance.
