We are almost half way down the year and so far we haven’t seen a movie that could be a major blockbuster hit. However, that might be because most of the festivals in India fall in the later half the year and therefore producers and distributors wait for the right time when they can release their movie and get maximum box office collections for their movies. Although, we have seen some great masala and off beat movies on the silver screen there is a lot more that we haven’t seen. So, which forthcoming movies we should watch out for to get some entertainment that we deserve.
I Am Kalam – Let’s start the countdown from an inspiring movie that can really move you from within. I Am Kalam is already in the movie halls and getting some great reviews from the people as well as the critics. The movie is loosely inspired by the childhood struggle of former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. It is a story about a young teenager who leads a poor life and works on a roadside stall. However, he is inspired by the fact that former President of India would also work like him and that nothing can be impossible if we have the will to get what we want. Although, this might not be a typical Bollywood film where you can expect item numbers but this movie is really food for your mind and soul.
Aarakshan – After showing us the dirty underbelly of Indian politics in Raajneeti, Prakash Jha is back with some hard hitting social drama that might take the nation by storm. Aarakshan stars the megastar Amitabh Bacchan along with some splendid performance by Saif Ali Khan, Manoj Bajpai, Prateik Babbar and Deepika Padukone. So far nothing can be said about the fate of the movie because it all depends on the people. However, this will definitely have some serious issues that the director is trying to bring to light and if you love movies that ask you questions and force you to think then Aarakshan will do complete justice. The movie talks about the reservation policy in the country for government jobs and in various educational institutions.
Chatur Singh Two Star – If you love comedy movies, you don’t have to wait too long because Chatur Singh Two Star will be in movie hall in few weeks from now. You can call this an Indian version of The Pink Panther or Johnny English. In the lead role is apun ka Munnabhai, Sanjay Dutt along with Ameesha Patel. The movie looks good from the promos and the jokes are quite funny. However, one cannot claim this to be a huge hit because in the last few months none of the movies of Sanjay Dutt have worked well. Chatur Singh Two Star has various other comedians in the department to support him, but all that can only work when the script and the dialogues work in sync with perfect timing.
Bodyguard – After Wanted and Dabangg Salman is back to rock the screen with his action packed performance in Bodyguard. This one is a remake of the Malayalam version by the same director Siddique, but this time there will be more action because that is what the audience here would like to see. There will be some edits done here and there to ensure that the movie fits Salman’s personality and his style of performance. With Salman protecting Kareena this will be one action movie that you should not miss out, especially if you are huge Salman Khan or Kareena fan.
Mere Brother Ki Dulhan – Sounds like a messy love triangle and it seems that I am right to much extent. Mere Brother Ki Dulhan is a romantic comedy which will have Katrina Kaif, Imran Khan and Pakistani singer and actor Ali Zafar. The movie already has created a lot of hype among the youngsters and there is no doubt that this movie will receive some fantastic opening in its first week probably because it has a Yash Raj Films banner right above to get some great opening.
Mausam – It’s time for some romance and if you are looking for some romantic movies like Veer Zaara to hit back in movie halls, you have Mausam in the list. Mausam is a directorial debut by Pankaj Kapoor and this will be the first time that Shahid Kapoor will act opposite his father Pankaj Kapoor. The movie is about different phases of love and in the movie that metaphors for the seasons that keep changing with time. Each season has different things to offer and that is what the movie is all about. Shahid is paired opposite Sonam Kapoor who will be seen on screen after Thank You which was a critical failure at the box office.
Ra.One – Its Diwali time in India and this time its Shahrukh Khan that is going to add some fire on screen with his much awaited Ra-One. Directed by Anubhav Sinha and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment Ra.One is a sci-fi superhero film and Shahrukh Khan will be the G.One who will be saving the people from Ra.One played by Arjun Rampal. This is also going to be one of the expensive films of 2011 so we definitely need to keep an eye on this one.
Don 2 – If you enjoyed the earlier version of Don that had Shahrukh Khan at his best then you might love to watch the sequel as well. Directed by Farhan Akhtar this movie is definitely getting a lot of buzz because of the action sequences and thrills that are associated with the movie. The movie will have music by the music trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy and the story will move ahead from where it ended in the first version. Undoubtedly, Shahrukh Khan fans will be eager to watch their hero kicking some butt. However, even if you are not Shahrukh Khan fan you can watch it for some great action in the film.
