Bollywood veteran, Farooq Sheikh, who was a famous philanthropist and a popular television presenter too, passed away last night. Shocking, but true. He was 65.
“He has passed away,” is the only official statement. Any other detail of the incident has not been disclosed yet. As per insiders, the actor was in Dubai for a concert and it was only there when he suffered a heart attack and breathed his last. His body will be brought to India after completing the formalities in Dubai and the funeral will take place in Mumbai on 28th December, 2014.
Mainly remembered for his films during 1970-85, Farooq’s ,main contribution was in Parallel Indian Cinema. He had made his debut with M S Sathyu’s critically acclaimed movie on partition, ‘Garm Hawa’.
Mr. Sheikh had worked with supreme directors of his times, namely Satyajit Ray, Muzaffar Ali, Ketan Mukherjee and Ketan Mehta. He had won the 2010 National Film Award for Supporting Actor for Sanjay Puran Singh’s ‘Lahore’.
Not just movies, the National Award winning actor had acted in television serials too. As a presenter, the quiet and humble actor had hosted the first season of ‘Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai’ where he had interviewed many popular celebrities at the show.
The 65 year old actor had done more than 50 films which he was very choosy about and he recently seen playing the role of a caring-but-calm father of Ranbir Kapoor in ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’. He last movie was ‘Club 60’ and he was widely praised for proving his acting mettle in the movie.
His sudden death has sparked a shock over Bollywood biggies and they took to Twitter to express their grief.
