Action flicks are made hugely not only in Hollywood but also in other film industries of the world. The reason behind the making of the action movies is obvious that the viewers love to watch them. Since these ilk of movies carry abundance of audiences and they are money-making, the producers put them on the top of list. Making an action-packed film seems easy but in actual it requires much hard work, money and talents to doll up the things to put them on the celluloid. Ordinary action sequences do not allure the viewers and if an action movie carries the ordinary action, the film gets simply flop no matter it carries worthwhile and weighty script to rave big about. The fact of the matter is that the audience comes to watch good dose of action in mind and when they are treated with badly done action or the dose is less than what is required, the viewers get bored and do not focus on the storyline.
Well, there is no denying in the fact that script is the life of every movie and makes or breaks the film. But as far as action movies are concerned, along with script a good amount of well handled action are required to lure the fans of the action.
Baltasar Kormakur’s directed venture ‘Contraband’ carries a good dose of action. So the viewers can be rest assured for one thing. And yes, they can make it sure about the script as well, which is not bad rather good if we cannot claim it masterpiece. But it works with the audiences.
The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster and Robert Wahlberg in the main leads.
The movie talks about Chris Farraday (Mark Wahlberg) who does not want to return to the world of crimes – drug smuggling. He has left all this and wants to stay away from all this. He loves his family and can go to all extent for them. He is clear about what to do in the days to come. Little does this man know that fate has something else in store for him? One of his family members gets Chris back into the world of drugs. He is his wife Kate’s (Kate Beckinsale) brother, Andy (Caleb Landry Jones) who has wrecked a cocaine delivery deal. Chris is now forced to return to the world of criminals to protect his family. He heads to Panama to settle the scores.
The execution is good that binds the viewers till the finale. Baltasar Kormakur deserves good marks for this fine job. Aaron Guzikowski should be applauded for writing good screenplay. The cinematography is excellent.
Mark Wahlberg does the brilliant job and entices the souls with his action packed performance. Kate Beckinsale looks gorgeous and acts well. Rest of the cast fills the bill also.
Final Verdict by the Critic:
On the whole, Contraband is a well executed flick packed with brilliant action and good storyline.
