In the Land of Blood and Honey, the movie that was very much being awaited by the moviegoers and the fans of Angelina Jolie, has come out in theaters for the cinema goers. The film is the directorial debut of Angelina Jolie. It is about the Bosnian conflict taken place in the early 1990s. The film pours light on the lives of a Christian Serb Daniel (Goran Kostic) and Bosniak Mulsim woman Ajla (Zana Marjanovic) whose lives got torn apart due to the war.

The movie reveals how the ex-cop Danijel, with whom the leading lady Ajla shares quite romantic rapport pre-war conditions, takes her out of the cruel Serbians’ hands who want to rape her in prison.

The direction by Angelina Jolie is superb and swift. The execution of the story on the screen is a master of art. It does not seem that the film has been made by a newcomer in the field. Jolie very masterly does the job of direction. This shows she has mastered the art prior to slipping to the task. The story is a masterpiece and the screenplay has been scribbled down with conviction and super skills.

Danijel happens to be a Serbian cop and his father recruited him in the Serbian army. The army’s prime goal is to make Bosnia clean from the Bosnian Muslims. He makes the reunion with Ajla post her capturing by the Serbians. At the prison, she is tortured mentally and physically by serving the Serbain army personnel upon their return. They wipe out the people and target all of them in prison sexually. Danijel helps Ajla in escaping this torturing place.

The Romeo and Juliet romance has been captured beautifully. The execution of the movie is simply breath-taking. Angelina brings the sensitive subject on screen with her own class that attracts the viewers fully. Her direction becomes more strapping because of the script that has been written by her as well. This is an added advantage that she takes for her direction. Since the writer and director’s mind is one that results in fabulous results on the screen.

Camera work is simply awesome. Cinematography makes it perfect. Full marks to the cinematographer who does the job with finesse. Editing is first rate – no scene seems to be knowingly cut or added forcibly.

The performances by the leading stars are great. Goran Kostic allures the heart with his classy delivery of acting. Zana Marjanovic looks ravishing being a Bosnian Muslim and she enacts the part with conviction. Rest of the cast appears convincing too.

Final Verdict by the Critic:

On the whole, In the Land of Blood and Honey is a masterpiece. It is simply a magnum opus directed and scripted by the famed Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie who makes her directorial debut with this flick. She handles the sensitive subject with super creativity. A MUST WATCH!
