John Abraham All Set To Play A Footballer In ‘1911’

The recently married Bollywood hunk, John Abraham is surely enjoying his time these days. He is finally seeing some stability in Bollywood career and is getting genuine credibility for his decisions too. His movies are doing good and there’s no negativity surrounding the actor.

Also, John has become a producer too, that too a very successful one. While his first movie as a producer was ‘Vicky Donor’, which was one of the sweetest hits of 2012, 2013 was the same as well. ‘Madras Cafe’, a political drama which was apparently based on Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, brought smiles for him in 2013 as well. The actor was widely lauded for his matured acting and brave decision to take such a risky movie. Another thing to be noted about the movies was that they both were directed by Shoojit Sircar. The John-Shoojit is a hit, boss!

Now, continuing their association, the producer-director has sealed their next movie too. Calling it John’s weeding gift, Shoojit has completed a new script titled ‘1911’. The story is again a period film and will be telling the century-old Mohun Bagan’s historic win against an English football club in 1911. Says an excited Shoojit Sircar, “This a wedding gift for John. It is true-story. Mohun Bagan had just got created and they managed to defeat a top level English football club. It was a moral win and I think it was our true ‘Lagaan’ because football was not our game, it was theirs. John plays one of the players in this film.”

As per sources close to the movie, John will be playing the Aamir Khan of the football team. And joining him in the team would be none other than the director himself! Confirming the report, Shoojit laughs, “Both John and I are passionate football players. He suggested I play one of the characters. In fact, I am a footballer first, then a filmmaker.” Another buzz that is making some rounds is about comparing ‘1911’ with the hugely successful ‘Lagaan’. A matured Shoojit clarifies, “But this is real Lagaan. ‘1911’ is based on a true story.” The historic event is a part of the Higher Secondary syllabus too.

To be directed by Shoojit Sircar, the script has been written by Soumik Sen who just directed ‘Gulaa Gang’ with Madhuri Dixit Nene. The movie will be shot in Bengal and Shoojit claims that it is a fun story of the human spirit about a small football club which won against professional British football clubs. Shoojit has plans of rolling the movie by the end of this year or early next year.
