Pyaasa dialogues, now on paper

New Delhi: The legendary actor and director Guru Dutt is still remembered mostly for his cinematic masterwork from 1957, “Pyaasa”. The many fans of the film can now enjoy its dialogues and touching songs are now available in a book, written by the author Nasreen Munni Kabir.

The book, entitled plainly “The Dialogue of Pyaasa” also includes extensive commentaries made by the author. The volume is available in three languages: English, Hindi and Urdu, and the big launch is scheduled for Wednesday.

The original dialogues in the film were written by famous scriptwriter Abrar Alvi. The flawless direction of Guru Dutt helped the amazing script become a very successful film in India. With Waheeda Rahman playing the role of Gulabo and Johnny Walker portraying Abdul Sattar in white and black picture, the story of a poet, and his unsettling thirst for recognition, fulfillment and love, warmed the hearts of all the viewers.

The lyrics were written by Sahir Ludhianvi, who managed to capture the intensity of every scene in his songs, composed by S. D. Burman.
