Mumbai: A couple that scorched the silver screen in the late ‘80s and the ‘90s were reportedly falling apart. One time beau, as what tabloids claim, Madhuri and Anil Kapoor were always a little more than being ‘just good friends’. But after Mad’s return from the USA, things supposedly were okay between the two stars who lighted a million hearts with their sizzling on-screen chemistry in films like Beta, Prainda, Tezaab, Ram Lakhan and others.
Maduri, as reports suggest claims to be in the same round as the Vidyas, Katrinas, Kareenas and the Priyankas now where she demands a hefty 2 to 3 crore for an endorsement and an even more rock solid 5 crore for a film. The diva who rocked the nation with her ‘ada’ and ‘nazakat’ had taken a sabbatical from movies post her much hyped marriage and motherhood! But when she returned with ‘Aaja Nachle’, the wrinkles on her face were clearly testament to the film opening to poor responses. The film eventually bombed at the box office and our Mohini had to return back to where she temporarily belonged, the United States. The epitome of dance, returned to television with an immensely successful season of Jhalak Dikhlajaa, which she felt had made higher openings for her! Yes, true it is! She was signed on as brand ambassador for various brands and even the STAR TV owned ‘Life OK’ channel. Her demands have increased even more since then.
The buzz word doing the rounds these days was that our jhakaas international icon Anil Kapoor had fallout with our desi Chandramukhi. The reason? Madhuri declined the role of playing mother to Sonam in Anil’s desi remake of Freaky Friday! Madhuri, who is a global icon also need to accept ageing with grace and step down the podium just like Juhi and Kajol did! It is not that she shouldn’t make films. Others are doing films too. But demanding the same as an actress who is ruling charts today, that might just turn negative on her part!
But recently, announcements were made that the evergreen dup would be walking the red carpet for their 1989 film Parinda at PVR Cinema, Juhu on the 30th this month. Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the producer of the film, in association with PVR cinemas, is organizing a retrospective of his films on his completion of three decades in the industry. The festival would feature all Vidhu Chopra’s films, ranging from ‘Khamoshi’, ‘1942: A love story’, ‘Parinda’ to ‘Munnabhai series’ and ‘3 Idiots’ from 29th this month. But needs to be watched with bated breath is how Anil and Madhuri would respond to each other when they finally face each other after the fallout?
Would they celebrate the romance and compassion they portrayed on screen in the National Award winning ‘Parinda’ or will it just be a pale and dull ‘hi’ with a kiss on the cheeks? Mum is the word! Lets wait for the 30th!
