Bollywood directors love to follow the trend that is already tried and tested by various directors. However, there are some unconventional directors who love to keep experiment and they are hardly bothered about which trends are popular with the audiences. When Kalki Koechlin and Abhay were first seen together on screen in Dev D it was thought that finally Bollywood have found their new unconventional pair because both Abhay and Kalki love to try different and new age cinema rather than following the typical masala Bollywood. Soon Zoya Akhtar took them together in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and audiences loved their chemistry on screen once again.
Now, Abhay and Kalki both are together in Dibakar Bannerjee’s Shanghai but it is here that Abhay and Kalki have to depart because the director wants it that way. Dibakar already is known for the kind of different movies that he makes and therefore he has decided not to go with the usual approved Bollywood Jodi this time. Talking about the movie, Dibakar said that although Abhay and Kalki are in the film but they are not opposite each other and to make it even worse they don’t have any scene together in the movie.
Abhay Deol did confirm that this time he and Kalki are not paired opposite each other and therefore there is no interaction between the two. He added that there is only one scene between him and her and even between him and Emraan. However, he also added that the script of the movie demands it to be that way so they cannot help much. Kalki also admitted that her character does not revolve around Abhay and therefore there is no need for the two characters to meet. She also revealed that she is not paired opposite Emraan as well because her character is very much solo in the film.
