Lagaan in Time Magazine’s List

There are some movies that remain fresh forever and Lagaan is one such movie that will always go in the history books of Indian cinema. Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and produced by Aamir Khan Productions this movie is still making news all over the world. As per the latest information Lagaan has been included in the Time Magazine’s Top 25 Best Sports Movies list. Every year Time Magazine looks out for some interesting movies across the globe to create their list after all the considerations they take into. This time Lagaan has been listed on 14th spot in the list and it’s a great achievement for the cast and crew of the film.

Lagaan was Aamir Khan Productions’ first movie and it also won an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film but unfortunately it lost to No Man’s Land. The movie was the biggest opener for the year 2001 where some daring peasants challenge the British rulers to play the game of cricket which would help them to escape from paying taxes. When Lagaan was under production there were lot of criticism going around as many Indian experts thought that sports movies don’t do well in Indian cinema.

However, Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker went ahead with the project and they had a very strong script to back them up. On the other hand, they had some brilliant music from AR Rahman that can take the audience on the ride of happiness, sorrow and struggle. The movie had a decent star cast but it was a solid performance from Aamir Khan himself that took Lagaan to new heights. So far there is no other sports movie in India that can compete with Lagaan and the kind of atmosphere that it created inside the cinema hall. Truly it deserves to be in all top sports movies list.
