The release date of the movie has become a crucial factor for the producers because they can earn more if they have selected the right dates and the right festival season. Mausam was among the highly anticipated movies in recent times with some great hype and promos that support the movie. It was a directorial debut of Pankaj Kapur and a great chemistry between Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor was visible in the trailers and all the promos that they did. However, unfortunately the movie failed to impress the audiences all over India and couldn’t do much business at the box office.
The movie was going to be released on September 16 but too many controversies especially with the IAF objection some of the air scenes the movie release date had to be postponed and it was released on September 23. The movie had a good opening in North India and other parts of India but that was just a short lived happiness for the cast and crew and even the producers. In the weekdays, the performance of Mausam crashed and the movie only generated 28 crore in the first week itself.
Many viewers and film experts claim that the slow screenplay and length of the movie are responsible for it because the movie drags a lot especially in the second half. On the other hand, Mausam had only one week time to impress the audience and to make business because this week there are five new movies to be released. Since they have released already and movies like Force and Saheb Biwi aur Gangster have received great response the collections of Mausam will further dip down. It is inevitable that soon Mausam will fade away from majority of the movie halls and multiplexes now that there is a long list of movies that are about to release.
