Still riding high on the success of their last film ‘The Dirty Picture’, Balaji Telefilms is back to producing a host of films to be released in 2012. ‘Rock The Shaadi’ is one among them. Earlier titled ‘Shaadi Of The Dead’, the film will be directed by Navdeep Singh and produced by Balaji Films and iRock Films India. The film’s USP is that it is a ‘zom-com’, basically involving zombies in a Punjabi wedding.
Abhay Deol and Genelia D’Souza will be playing the lead roles of Rohan and Simran respectively. Preeti Desai, Abhay’s real-life partner, will be seen in a cameo in the film. Both Abhay and Genelia are very excited about the story and concept of the film, which mainly deals with zombies in a typical lavish and flamboyant Punjabi wedding.
It is reported that producer Ekta Kapoor was not happy with the previous title of the film and asked the cast for better suggestions. After much speculation, Abhay Deol acted savior and came up with ‘Rock The Shaadi’. The film’s shooting has started recently and is on a two-month shooting schedule in Rajasthan.
Just few days into the shooting, and the film has already witnessed controversies. Director Navdeep Singh was involved in a heated argument over some technical matters with Niraj Shanghai, Business head, Prime Focus. Things are reported to have worsened when the fight became physical.
Not only Niraj, but also other unit members are complaining against the rough behavior of Singh. Going by speculations, iRock might hand over the film to Balaji Telefilms because of their inability to deal with Singh’s behavior.
The film is expected to release in this year itself, although no dates have been announced yet.
