Rs. 200 crores for Mani Ratnam’s new flick

New Delhi: The ace Bollywood director Mani Ratnam is again busy with a new project. His latest film, the highly acclaimed “Raavanan”, was a real success at the box office. Now the critics’ and the audience’s expectations are high.

His new project is based on a popular Tamil historical novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy, entitled “Ponniyin Selvan”. Mani is now working on the pre-production preparations, and the shootings are to start soon.

The historical novel is based on the story of Arulmozhivarman, a young man who later was crowned king and was known to all as Raja Raja Chola. He was the greatest king in the history of the Tamil world.

What is truly amazing about the film so far is the budget designated for the production. A whopping amount of Rs. 200 crores are to be invested in the production of the film. The producer of this high budget film will probably be Kalanidhi Maran, under the banner of Sun Pictures. Jayamohan will be the writer for “Ponniyin Selvan”.
