Don 2 – Music Review

The sequel to Don is all set to make waves among the moviegoers of the Bollywood cinema. For the film, the viewers still have to wait for the release but to soothe the ears with the music – well, no need at all to sit on the waiting chair since the music has been released by the giant music head honcho T-Series.

Farhan Akhtar and Ritiesh Sidhwani’s mega project ‘Don 2’, the sequel to their 2006’s blockbuster ‘Don’ (that was the remake of the mega successful Amitabh Bachchan movie with the same title ‘Don’), is gearing up to hit the screens. The movie lovers are eagerly waiting for the final outcome on the silver screen. The expectations are pretty high for the giant success with the audiences and they are extra higher with the makers and the cast of the film.

The album of Don 2 consists of nine tracks in total and it has been scored by the brilliant trio of Shankar Ehsaan Loy (SEL).  The two numbers are remix versions out of these nine songs.

SEL has given the commercial touch of this soundtrack. The movie stars Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Boman Irani and Kunal Kapoor. Let’s check out the album that has the lyrics by the legendary Javed Akhtar.

Aa Raha Hoon Palat Ke [Shah Rukh Khan]

The album begins with a thirty seconds track narrated by (since Shah Rukh only narrates the lines) Shah Rukh. The background music aptly fits to his vocals.

Zaraa Dil Ko Thaam Lo [Anusha Mani & Vishal Dadlani]

The number has electric sounds that allure the souls – they are really boisterous and sends the electrifying pleasures into the body. Anushka is simply a class in her act of singing. The seductive style vocals attract the ears. Vishal sings his part with aplomb. The chorus gels well with the mood of the number. The lyrics hold the values and the music is splendid. The song deserves to be heard again.

Hai Ye Maya [Usha Uthup]

Next comes, ‘Hai Ye Maya’ sung by the veteran songstress Usha Uthup. The electric beats behind the flow of the song in addition to the energetic jhankar glide on the souls. The drumming and the arrangements of the musical instruments are what you enjoy the most. Usha is superb in her usual trademark lively high-pitched style of singing. The lyrics convey the story of the Don and the advices to the leading man of the movie. Music is energetic and appealing.

[xrr rating=4/5]

Dushman Mera [Sunitha Sarathy & Shankar Mahadevan]

The song begins with the classy soul-arising beats of the musical arrangements. The singers – Sunitha and Shankar display their histrionics brilliantly. The lyrics hold values and the composition is a class to rave big about.

[xrr rating=4/5]

The King Is Back (Theme) [Sunitha Sarathy]

The theme song hits the space next on the album. Sunitha attracts the ears and injects true pleasures. The lyrics and the music both compliment to each other.

[xrr rating=3/5]

Mujhko Pehchaanlo [KK]

KK, the coveted Bollywood singer, croons Mujhko Pehchaanlo with his trademark style of singing that simply slips into the listeners to mesmerize with the outcome. Javed Sahib writes the lyrics aptly as per the theme of the movie. SEL stockpiles the tunes luminously.

[xrr rating=3.5/5]

Hai Ye Maya (Remix) [Usha Uthup]

The remix version, well, goes apt with the listeners but lacks somewhere in between the flow.

[xrr rating=2.5/5]

Mujhko Pehchaanlo (Remix) [KK]

The remix version of Mujhko Pehchaanlo is appealing but it too does not have the oomph attached to the original. The continuous saying of ‘Don Ko Pakrna Mushkil Nahi’ starts irking the ears. Leave it immediately.

[xrr rating=1.5/5]

The ‘Don’ Waltz [Caralisa Monteiro]

The album concludes with ‘The ‘Don’ Waltz’. The track is good to hear and swathed with the mesmerizing flow of the music. A good musical piece, one can relish with it.

[xrr rating=3/5]

Final Verdict:

The album to Don 2 is classy in every sense of the word. It will surely give the big smiles to the makers and the team attached to this mega project since the giant sale can safely be predicted and expected from the music stands. Apart from the two below average tracks, rest of the soundtrack is fabulous and melodious.
