Mumbai: Today is the 32nd death anniversary of the legendary classy singing maestro vocalist of Bollywood Mohammad Rafi. To pay tribute to the brilliant singer of its own class, another living legend of Hindi cinema Amitabh Bachchan remembers the singer. Rafi was the singer who gave many big actors their recognition and stardom in cinema industry. His voice turned many stars into superstars. He was a true perfectionist in his trade.
Amitabh remembers the golden memories, saying, he still reminds the day of his death. Bachchan says that he was a true perfectionist and made many stars’ careers in the industry with his voice. Amitabh admits that it is the playback singers who give identity and stature to the stars in the industry. Playback singers have always been constructing the careers of the actors in cinema fraternity.
Rafi died at 55 on 31st July 1981. His contribution to the Hindi music industry and Bollywood was mammoth and his every song turned out to be a gem. The most famous numbers are Kya Hua Tera Wada, Chaudhvien Ka Chand Ho, Khilona Jaan Kar, Aaj Mausam Bara Baiman Hai and the list goes on and on. His career spanned over four decades and he enticed the listeners with his spongy voice throughout his life. He was also a fully conversant with singing semi classical songs.
Amitabh tells that he attended his funeral and he is buried to a graveyard next to a Mosque near to his bungalow. He adds that he often passes through the graveyard where Mohammad Rafi and many others (he knows) are buried there. By the time he passes through the road, a gentle prayer comes out of his lips.
Rafi Sahib would be remembered forever by his millions of fans around the globe. Many established and aspiring singers copy his style of singing.
