New Delhi: The second highest civilian award in the Republic of India is indeed an honour to be coveted by any individual. The president decides a list of civilians to be awarded this honour every year. The criteria for judgement is pretty wide, be it sports persons, singers, dancers, sportspersons, NRIs, etc everyone gets a shot at this award.
The president it seems has approved a list of 109 awards which also includes the one to be conferred upon Late Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the veteran Asamese singer. The popular singer was also known for his poetry. Other notables to be awarded this year are cartoonist Late Mario De Miranda, T V Rajeswar former governor of Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Kantilal Hastimal Sancheti Orthopedic, amongst others. Skulptor K G Subramayam also made it to the list from the state of West Bengal.
