Mumbai: In spite of the fact that they are not supporters of the yoga guru Baba Ramdev, many celebrities form the tinsel town film industry have condemned the police crackdown on the guru calling the action ‘shameful’ and ‘undemocratic’. From Shekhar Kapur to Vivek Oberoi to Anupam Kher, the super stars have written on their twitter accounts as a manner of protest.
According to Anupam Kher, he was rather shocked to see just how the authorities and the police have behaved with the crowds at Ramlila Maidan. “It is undemocratic and unfair. SHAME” said the celebrity.
Shekhar Kapur also had a lot to say regarding this issue. According to him, the action was a stupid government act which has send in the world the message that peaceful protests are no longer accepted and that they lead the road to violence. Many Indian citizens are the victims to the police brutality added the super star of B-town.
“This country gives everyone the Right to protest! Remember?” said Raveena Tandon, while Pritish Nandy wanted to say that in spite of the fact that he is no supporter of the yoga guru, he thinks that the actions taken were wrong. In his opinion this has proven to be a dangerous sign of government intolerance.
Vivek Oberoi wrote that he was shocked to see children and women crying. In his mind, violence never represents a solution. “What happened 2our Gandhian legacy of ahimsa?” he asked. Shruti Seth also took a stand and demanded that someone ask the politicians to stop talking and do something that will in fact make a difference to their lives, while Celina Jaitly stated that corruption will never be battled by the hunger strike of the leaders – which in fact have their own personal agenda.
It seems that the Bollywood celebrities are very interested in maintaining a democratic process of things in their country.
