The news is out and the film all set to roll in March. Mani Ratnam’s next is titled Kadal (Sea) and the film brings back the hit combination of A.R Rahman and Mani Ratnam after their successes in films like Iruvar, Bombay, Yuva, Guru and many more.
The Oscar winner has already composed two songs for the upcoming film and the lyrics of same have been written by the great Vairamuthu. The songs have been taken from vairamuthu’s collection of poems titled Vairamuthu Kavidhaigal.
The highlight of the film is that it marks the debut of yesteryear star Kartik’s son Gautam and Samantha. The film also brings back Arvind Swamy who had been away from the industry after a huge sabbatical. The star had already expressed his desire to retire from films, but this comes in as a huge surprise. Not to forget Arvind’s claim to fame was Mani Ratnam’s Roja which helped Arvind scale his career to new heights.
The film would also star Arjun, Pasupathy and Lakshmi Manchu and the characters would essay important roles in the film.
Initially Mani was supposed to naming the film as Pookadai, but some registerations with title made it official that Kadal would be the title of the film. The film would be shot bi-langually and would have its first schedule in the beautiful locales of Andaman.
Also there were strong reports that the female child actress of Mani’s epic hit Kannathil Muthamital would play the lead, however the actress joins the project not as an actor but as an assistant director.
Kadal thus promises to be another exciting flavour with A.R Rahman and Mani joining hands once again. Looking into their past history and success record, this one promises to reach the same level if not even more. So let us hope that KADAL promises us another HIT from the duo of Mani and Rahman and the Madras Talkies banner under which the film is being produced.
