Rajesh Khanna passes away at 69

Mumbai: Bollywood’s dashing and charming and above all Hindi film industry’s first superstar, Rajesh Khanna has died today at his bungalow in Mumbai today. He was 69. Khanna was suffering from cancer. The reports have it that the late superstar would be cremated by tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m. Police have now cordoned off Rajesh Khanna’s bungalow ‘Aashiwad’ on Carter Road in Bandra. Akshay Kumar, the late superstar’s son in law had the press meet and through them asked Khanna’s millions of fans in India and abroad to pray for the departed soul.

On June 23rd, Rajesh Khanna was taken to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital for the treatment of exhaustion. He spent few days at the hospital where his tests were taken and later he got discharged. By the time the news of his stop taking the food emerged on the scene, the worried fans gathered outside his bungalow on June 21st. The superstar came out in his balcony along with son in law Akshay Kumar and estranged wife Dimple Kapadia and waved the victory sign to his worried fans.

In April this year, Rajsh Khanna was also rushed to the hospital where he stayed for few days for the treatment. Throughout Khanna’s illness days, his estranged wife actress Dimple Kapadia nursed him thoroughly. Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia both have two daughters – Twinkle Khanna and Rinkie Khanna. Both are married – Twinkle to actor Akshay Kumar and Rinkie to a businessman Sameer Saran.

Rajesh Khanna is called the Bollywood’s first superstar. He was the top notch actor during seventies and early eighties. His unique style of acting – the acting with eyes and his dialogue delivery made him the household name. His movies like Anand, Aaradhana, Kati Patang, Bawarchi and Namak Haram added sparkles to his career. He bagged three Filmfare Awards in his long film career.

During 1992-1996, he also held a Lok Saba seat as Congressman. In Do Dilon Ke Khail Mein (2010), he enacted for Bollywood for the last time. Entire Bollywood industry and politician expressed their grieves over superstar’s death.
