Salman Khan sets a Rs 50cr record by selling satellite rights for Dabangg sequel

If you are a fan of Salman Khan, chances are high that you must have loved the mega hit film ‘Dabangg’. So, it would be real delight for you to know that the sequel to the hit flick is in full steam and if everything goes right, our Chulbul ‘Robin Hood’ Pandey may weave his magic stick again this Christmas.

But while the shooting for ‘Dabangg 2’ is still to kick off, the explosive news pouring in is that the satellite rights of the much awaited movie has been sold off to Star Network for a whopping Rs 50 crore approx. The music of the film has also been sold for a staggering Rs 10 crore to T-Series. Arbaaz & Company are surely laughing their way to the bank!

Though the exact figure of the official deal hasn’t been disclosed, Star has shelled out somewhere around Rs 48-50 crore to clinch the TV rights of the film. Star’s networks include Star Plus, Star Gold and the newly launched Life OK.

Though Star may have emptied its pockets on buying the rights, it will surely reap rich dividends next year when the film premieres on the idiot box. Salman’s last release ‘Bodygurad’, for instance, scored a fiery 10.3 in TRP charts when it was broadcasted in Star Gold in December, 2011. No doubt, Dabangg 2 has fetched a meaty price!

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan’s ‘Talaash’ and Hrithik’s ‘Agneepath’ have fetched Rs 40 crore as satellite prices while SRK’s ‘Don 2’ has raked in Rs 37 crore from Sony.

But the TV channels are not complaining since despite stupendous satellite prices, they make ample money from the sponsors.  “Increase in satellite prices for big-ticket films has a direct linkage to maximising gross rating points (GRPs), for the channels,” informs Rakesh Jariwala, film segment leader, Ernst & Young.

As of now, Salman’s films seem to be the most Wanted ones!
