Even as we count down the final hours before the commencement of the much-awaited Super Fight League (SFL), actor Sanjay Dutt has some added a tinge of emotion to the whole saga. Bollywood’s ‘Munnabhai’ has dedicated the tournament to his late father Sunil Dutt, thus bringing back some warm memories from the recesses of time.
SFL is being organized jointly by Sanjay Dutt and business tycoon Raj Kundra (Shilpa Shetty’s hubby). The Mixed Martial Event begins today on 11th March, Sunday, and while the sporting tournament in itself is being hailed for giving recognition to a less-popular Indian sport, Sanjay Dutt has added a deeper significance into the whole affair. It is not just a game or sport for him but his endeavor to complete the work left unfinished by his father.
Delving into the depths of his ocean of warm memories, Sanjay reveals that his dad Sunil Dutt was very enthusiastic about sports. He was not merely focused on cricket (the most popular game in India) but desired to do something for other sports including hockey, football & hockey. Therefore, this tournament is a fitting tribute which Sanjay and partner Raj could give to the great actor who has worked in Oscar-winning film ‘Mother India’.
Sunil Dutt held the important position of Union Sports Minister and was, hence, very upbeat about promoting a string of traditional & western sports in India. Sanjay recalls that his father wanted to lift the standards and provisions available to our non-cricketing sportsmen. SFL is nothing but a stepping stone towards fulfilling the unfulfilled dream of those departed eyes.
SFL kicks off tonight at 7 pm at the popular ‘Andheri Sports Complex’! Despite his busy shooting schedule, Sanjay has been able to organize the tournament. The unassuming actor, however, gives full credit to Raj Kundra for looking after the arrangements while he was away for shoots. We salute the dedication shown by Raj and Sanjay towards their commitment to a noble cause.
