Sony Entertainment rules Indian Television

It’s a great start to the New Year as Sony Entertainment Television has regained back its 2nd position putting Colors Viacom down to the 3rd according to a report released by

Having launched new shows and delivering diverse content Sony is a current favourite among viewers when it comes to General Entertainment.  It had been a while that Sony as a channel in Asia was not living up to its name and when competition from newer channels that launched (Colors, NDTV Imagine), Sony had to make the plunge to bring variety in entertainment.

In an age where female viewers dominated the soap scene, Sony brought in fresh shows like Saas Bina Sasural – a risk that the channel seemed to have taken and it paid off. This show received a phenomenal response and is doing really well. This also prompted the channel to introduce newer concepts and reviving the old giant Kaun Banega Crorepati.

Today Sony is following a trend which no channel in recent times has achieved- Showcasing content that has older men ruling most of the successful shows. Shows like Bade Ache Lagte Hain has Ram Kapoor playing a 40 plus year old man getting married to a 30 year old woman and this show is amongst the highly watched soaps on prime time.

Mohnish Bahl who was last seen in Dil Mil Gayee makes a comeback with Kuch Toh Log Kahenge and plays an older character as well. His show too has been impressive. Such is the variety that Sony has brought in entertainment in recent times.

Not to overrule that shows like CID, Crime Patrol and Adaalat continue to script successes for Sony as a channel and have viewership loyalty. Virendra Shahane the fiction head at Sony says that it’s good to see that results are positive and Sony has proved to be a trendsetter.
