THE “KHILADI” NUMBER ONE STORY!
Handsome….great physique…to die for smile….wickedness….the “Numero Uno” of bollywood action….yes!… we are talking about none other than Akshay Kumar. Akshay is conceivably the most saleable and unswerving actor in bollywood today….he started his career as an action hero and as the years have gone by…we’ve seen this man grow into one of the “finest” actor’s that bollywood can show off! Akshay has displayed impeccable skills and sense for comic roles in movies such as Garam Masala (in the year 2005), Bhagam Bhaag (in the year 2006) and Heyy Babyy (in the year 2007).
Akshay Kumar’s real name’s Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia and his birth date is the 9th of September in the year 1967. Today, Akshay Kumar is not only an Indian movie actor; he is also a producer and a martial artist who’s featured in more than a hundred bollywood flicks. He began his career in acting in the 1990s, and was mostly seen in action movies…from where he got the popular “khiladi” tag that he still bears!…. the “Khiladi” string includeds movies like Khiladi (in the year 1992), Sabse Bada Khiladi (in the year 1995), Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (in the year 1996), and Khiladi 420 (in the year 2000).
It was much later that Akshay gained fame for roles such as drama, comedy and romance. Yeh Dillagi (in the year 1994) and Dhadkan (in the year 2000) were movies where Akshay was noticed and appreciated as a romantic actor and it was with Ek Rishtaa (in the year 2001) that he was noticed for his skills in drama. Hera Pheri (in the year 2000), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (in the year 2004), and Garam Masala (in the year 2005) were films where Akshay’s comic streak were brought to the forefront and he was much appreciated for the same. It was in the year 2007 that Akshay Kumar rose to further success, when he was seen in four successive commercial blockbusters.
Akshay Kumar has also worked consistently as a stunt actor alongside acting and it is because of this that he was known as the “Indian Jackie Chan”! It was in the year 2008 that Akshay Kumar marked his debut in a television series by the name of Fear Factor – Khatron Ke Khiladi, as a host. The same year the University of Windsor awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Law on Akshay Kumar in gratitude for his contribution to bollywood. Akshay went on to establish the Hari Om Entertainment production company in the year 2009. The same year, the government of India honored Akshay with the Padma Shri.
His Early Life
Akshay was born in a Punjabi household in Amritsar. His dad worked as a government employee and since Akshay was very young, he was acknowledged as an entertainer, for the most part as a good dancer. Akshay was brought up in Chandni Chowk in Delhi before he moved to Mumbai. Akshay studied at the Don Bosco education centre and then moved on to study at the Guru Nanak Khalsa College.
He got hold of a black belt (Taekwondo) while he was in India, and continued to study martial arts even when he moved to Bangkok (Thailand). It was here that Akshay learned Muay Thai, worked as a waiter and as a chef. Once Akshay was back in Mumbai, he began training students for martial arts. It was here that Akshay’s student (who was a photographer) recommended that Akshay take to modeling. Once Akshay warmed up to the idea of being a model and earned a few bucks as a model, Akshay landed the lead role in the movie “Deedar” producer by Pramod Chakravarthy.
