Finally, the much awaited Mausam has been released and there are many people who are going to go watch this movie for sure. The movie had been in tons of controversies even before it was released and to some extent that will help the producers to recover all the losses that they have incurred. The directorial debut of Pankaj Kapur, Mausam is just another romantic love story that talks about the timeless love and how every lover has to endure the pains that are inflicted due to politics of the society, religion and various other emotional aspects. The movie stars Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor in the lead role. Anupam Kher, Surpiya Pathak and Manoj Pahwa are the supporting actors in the movie.
The movie takes off with a sweet little teenage attraction between Harry (Shahid) who hails from Punjab and Kashmiri girl Aayat (Sonam) as they both live in the same fictional village in Punjab. As they both grow up the love between them gets deeper and they finally realize that they are in love with each other. However, they soon have to depart as Harry is an Indian Air Force officer and when they separate they realize that they are more in love with each other and then they try to get to each other in order to make their love successful.
On performance level, Shahid is brilliant and it clearly shows that he had put a lot of hardwork and dedication to the movie. He has been working on this role for more than two years so that really goes to his credit. So far we have known Shahid for his performance in Kaminey but this one definitely goes miles ahead of that milestone which he achieved earlier. Sonam can consider this movie as the turning point in her career as she looks very different as simple Kashmiri girl madly in love with Harry and willing to go to any lengths to meet him. Hence, both the lead characters give out their best performances to keep the audiences glued to their seats. Anupam Kher and Supriya Pathak also does well in their character roles. Technically, the movie is good and the cinematography by Binod Pradhan is excellent capturing different parts of Punjab and Switzerland. The music by Pritam is already making buzz in the market with hit songs like Sajh Dhaj Ke and Rabba.
However, Mausam has some disappointments as well. The most disappointing factor about Mausam is the poorly written script by Pankaj Kapur. The script of the movie could have been edited to make it shorter. The length of the movie is definitely too long taking into consideration that there is lot of melodrama and typical Bollywood love chemistry happening. Some scenes in the movie are very good but then there are some horrible scenes that can make you yawn after some time. The movie has been divided into four different seasons. The Season 1 seems to be better but once the transition happens it becomes bad to worse for the audience. The only thing that holds the audiences is the chemistry between the lead actors and their performances. Looks like this Mausam is not good for Pankaj Kapur at all.
