COLORS pull a HUGE SURPRISE – ventures into sports reality

While it was completely unheard of General Entertainment Channels to venture into a different league, a channel whose success in recent times is the talking point, has pulled off another surprise. Yes we are talking about COLORS Viacom TV 18 who have ventured into Sports Reality with their upcoming show “Ring Ka King.”

Wrestling was only last seen on television and became a huge hit when WWF now WWE and TNA Sikandar made their presence felt on Sports Channels. But a similar show being launched in a General Entertainment Channel is a huge surprise from the channel and most think a huge risk.

The show will feature 30 wrestlers both from India and internationally acclaimed and will premiere on COLORS on 28th January 2012 at 8 PM. It will be aired on Saturdays and Sundays and the series would wrap before the start of IPL as they have roped in Indian Spinning Legend Harbhajan Singh as their goodwill ambassador.

COLORS has already been known for making bold decisions and experimenting and this is not a surprise that the channel is bringing according to the people associated with the show say. Raj Nayak CEO Colors says that the show is a platform to gain a market outside television. Once established on television, plans are there to take it further ahead and merchandise it as well.

Since TNA is an already recognized franchisee, Ring Ka King has also tied up with them to have a better branding. While reports confirm that in 2009 a similar series on wrestling titled De Dhana Dhan was launched but did not have a huge success, but will Ring Ka King manage to change the scene one will have to wait and watch as the first episode would unveil on the 28th of January.

The show has been produced by Endemol India along with TNA (Total Nonstop Action) and has Tata Prima Trucks as its main sponsor.
