Shakeela or Mallu Shakeela, as she is known to many has had an iconic career in adult movies. As the Indian adult movies are synonymous with the South Indian adult films, Shakeela gained a cult following all over the country.
Shakeela was born on November 19th 1973. She originally started out with smaller roles in B-grade Hindi movies, but eventually shifted her base to the South Indian film industry. Her career started at the age of 15, when she debuted in a movie titled Playgirls. She played a second fiddle, while limelight was hogged by none other than Silk Smitha!
She received huge popularity as Adult films were banned all over India due to strict censorship, except for the South Indian industry. Her movie Kinnara Thumbikal, was made on a miserly budget of 12 Lakh rupees but went on to gross 4 Crore rupees. The popularity of the movie can be judged from the fact that, it was dubbed in more than six different Indian regional languages. Shakeela has also got followers outside India as her films are seen even in China, Nepal and Sri Lanka! At one point of time, the industry was virtually named after the actress. All in all, she has featured in more than 100 films in multiple different languages. Most of her movies have been in Malayalam.
Recently, there were certain problems going on in the South Indian film industry. Censorship has strengthened its grip on the industry resulting in lesser audience for the movies these days. Shakeela has now moved on to do comedy roles in the South Indian films. The actress was a virtual reviver of the adult film industry in India and is credited with some of the major hits that the adult film industry has ever witnessed!
